- Βιοτικό επίπεδο:
Το βιοτικό επίπεδο του πληθυσμού και συγκεκριμένα του αγροτικού, δοθέντος ότι ο αστικός πληθυσμός αποτελεί μικρό ποσοστό, εν συγκρίσει με άλλες περιοχές της χώρας, είναι ικανοποιητικό. Το αγροτικό ετήσιο εισόδημα υπολογίζεται σε 15.000 δραχμές περίπου, κυμαινόμενο από 7.000-30.000 δραχμές.
- Ελληνική Πολιτική Σκηνή:
Στις 4/10/1955 πεθαίνει ο τότε Πρωθυπουργός Αλέξανδρος Παπάγος και ακολουθεί η έκπληξη της ανάθεσης από μέρους του Βασιλιά της πρωθυπουργίας στον Κωνσταντίνο Καραμανλή, μέχρι τότε υπουργό Δημοσίας Τάξεως. Στις 4/1/1956ο Κωνσταντίνος Καραμανλής αναγγέλλει την ίδρυση της ΕΡΕ, στην οποία προσχωρούν οι τρεις Βενιζελικοί πρώην υπουργοί, Ε. Αβέρωφ, Γρ. Κασιμάτης και Κ. Τσάτσος, ενώ αποχωρεί και τυπικά από τις κυβερνητικές τάξεις ο Στέφανος Στεφανόπουλος με 12 βουλευτές.
Ο Καραμανλής θα προκηρύξει εκλογές για τις 19/2/1956 με εκλογικό σύστημα «πλειοψηφικό, εκπροσώπησης 4,2,2 της μειοψηφίας και αναλογικό στις μεγάλες περιφέρειες», στις οποίες για πρώτη φορά ψηφίζουν και οι γυναίκες. Νικήτρια από αυτές τις εκλογές θα αναδειχθεί η ΕΡΕ, που ενώ συγκεντρώνει ποσοστό ψήφων 47,38 %, τελικά παίρνει 165 έδρες, ενώ η «Δημοκρατική Ένωσις» (Σ. Βενιζέλος, Γ. Παπανδρέου, Ι. Πασαλίδης, Γ. Καρτάλης, Κ. Τσαλδάρης κ.α.) με ποσοστό 48,15 %, αλλά χάρη στις ανισότητες του εκλογικού μέτρου θα πάρει μόνο 132 έδρες.
Στις Σέρρες εκλέγονται οι: Ιντζές Νικόλαος (ΔΕ), Καραμανλής Κών/νος, Κηπουρός Πασχάλης, Λαυρεντίδης Ισαάκ, Μυστακίδης Αθανάσιος, Μάντζαλας Πέτρος, Χατζηδήμος Ιωάννης, Ψάρρης Αργύριος (όλοι της ΕΡΕ).
- Διεθνής πολιτική σκηνή:
25-3-1957: Στη Ρώμη υπογράφονται οι συνθήκες ίδρυσης της Ευρωπαϊκής Οικονομικής Κοινότητος (ΕΟΚ) και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ατομικής Ενέργειας (EURATOM) από τους αρχηγούς των Κυβερνήσεων των έξι κρατών-μελών. Τα κράτη μέλη ήταν Γαλλία, Ιταλία, Βέλγιο, Ολλανδία, Λουξεμβούργο και η Ομοσπονδιακή Δημοκρατία της Γερμανίας. Η ΕΟΚ αποτελεί διεύρυνση της Ένωσης Άνθρακα και Χάλυβα κι έχει ως σκοπό, πέραν του χάλυβα και του άνθρακα, να δημιουργήσει μια κοινή Ευρωπαϊκή αγορά για όλα τα προϊόντα και τις υπηρεσίες της Κοινότητος. Σημαντικότερο θεσμό αποτελεί η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, που θα κάνει προτάσεις για την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση. Η συνθήκη προβλέπει επίσης, την ίδρυση μιας Ευρωπαϊκής Τράπεζας Επενδύσεων, η οποία θα βοηθάει με δάνεια και πιστώσεις τις υπανάπτυκτες περιοχές της Κοινότητας.
- Άλλα μεγάλα Εθνικά και Διεθνή γεγονότα:
4-10-1957: Η επιτυχής εκτόξευση Δορυφόρου από τους Σοβιετικούς πέφτει σαν βόμβα στις Δυτικές χώρες. Για πρώτη φορά πέτυχαν άνθρωποι να εκτοξεύσουν μια πτητική μηχανή έξω από τη γήινη ατμόσφαιρα, που πρόκειται να διαγράψει κυκλική τροχιά γύρω από τη γη, ως τεχνητός δορυφόρος. Ο «Σπούτνικ» που το όνομά του μπήκε στο στόμα όλων, μέσα σε μια μέρα, χρειάζεται 95 λεπτά για μια πλήρη περιστροφή γύρω από τη γη και κινείται με ταχύτητα 24.500 χλμ/ώρα.
